Hello, nice to meet you. Let me tell you a bit about myself. My name is Reynaldo, I’m 52 years old, and I currently work on a Cruise ship. I’ve been in this job for 24 years, and I’m currently on vacation.

I want to share that I’ll be starting a blog to document my experiences with my current situation regarding my Type 2 diabetes. I haven’t tried blogging about any health issues before because I didn’t want people to know about my diabetes.

In pursuit of diversifying my income beyond my maritime work and avoiding a return to the ship, I joined Dean’s Holland mentorship program. Hoping to change my income through online ventures, I accidentally purchased two websites on WordPress due to my inexperience.

This is one reason why I’ve decided to start a blog about health tips. My aim is to utilize the extra website and share my personal experience as a diabetic.

Due to the pandemic, I lost my job on the ship, which is sad. However, on the bright side, I am happy to have experienced three years of freedom from work. It feels liberating not to wake up to an alarm clock for three years.

In short, I am free to wake up according to my preferences and go wherever I want within my budget. This freedom led me to think that my way of earning should change since the feeling of being free from work is delightful. Unfortunately, this freedom also had negative consequences, leading to my diabetes.

During my vacation, I indulged in unhealthy eating habits. On the ship, I couldn’t enjoy local food, and I was conscious of forbidden foods due to medical concerns. In my three years of vacation, I abused my body with food.

Can you believe that in one day, I would have 5 or 6 cups of 3-in-1 instant coffee and about 20 pieces of pandesal bread? This happened because I was occupied and excited to be free, especially when I’m having coffee while I’m in the farm; which was my way to relax. Within those three years, I developed diabetes.

For now, this is what I’ll share with you. I’ll keep you updated, possibly three times a week, on the results of my diet.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. If you have any questions or ideas on how to manage diabetes, I’d appreciate hearing them. Please leave your advice in the comments.

Thank you again.

Reynaldo M. Oliva
